Whether you want to get fit by the first and/or get a head start on holiday shopping, NOW is the time to head over to my favorite workout studio in San Antonio, Core-Physique Pilates. If you've been following me for some time, you know I love working out on the Megaformer. A devotee since the studio first opened in 2013, I've been to about 300 CP classes for one main reason: IT WORKS! If you're like me, you want a workout that's gets the job done, and this is simply it. Unlike anything else you've tried, CP is a non-impact "Pilates on steroids" workout that will strengthen your core, lift and tighten your booty, and tone your shoulders, arms and legs. How to convince yourself to exercise on the regular: a head game

By Claudia Zapata | September 27th, 2016 | 8 Comments
A few weeks ago I read a post about a woman's lifelong hate for exercise. She tries something new - I believe it's Zumba - but far from enchanted, she remains on the hunt for something she would love to do. Joining my first gym at the age of 14, I been working out pretty consistently and almost always intensely 6-7 days a week ever since. While I can't speak for all who've made exercise a habit, I certainly don't do a happy dance on my way to a workout. There are plenty of days an evil voice inside my head says "I don't feel like it today. Please don't make me go." The head game I play with myself to keep going can be pretty hilarious. Read More...

Hi Everyone! I’m approaching my 250th class at my favorite Pilates studio, Core-Physique. There’s only one reason I’d do something 250 times: it works! Core-Physique is the best total body workout around, and nothing will challenge and strengthen you like CP. Core-Physique's beautiful studio is equipped with ten "megaformers," and the variety of moves you can do on these machines will take you and your booty by surprise. My favorites include the "French Twist" for great oblique work, "Scrambled Eggs" which targets every muscle fiber in your being, and "Bungee" for the best butt burner. I also love and hate the seemingly endless variety of lunge Read More...

A New Year, A Kinder Approach to Health

By Claudia Zapata | January 7th, 2016 | 1 Comments
"More today, Stronger tomorrow" read the t-shirt worn by a fellow gym rat that made me smile one recent morning. Most of the people you see working out on the regular typically think that way. Once you workout enough to make it a daily habit, it can be hard to well, stop working out so hard. "No challenge, no change" has long been my mantra. I also like "make time for fitness, not excuses." Or, when I'm feeling lazy and uninspired, I go with "you're one workout away from a good mood." While I still believe in pushing the limits and setting new workout goals, in 2016 my challenge will include knowing my limits and being kinder to my body by taking scheduled days off fr Read More...

One simple move to a stronger core and sizzling arms: push-ups done right

By Tom Trevino | November 2nd, 2015 | 0 Comments
Ah, the humble push-up. I consider it the chocolate chip cookie of the fitness world. Why? Because it’s inherently simple and good, but you’ll find few people who can pull them off properly from scratch. Instead we abuse them, add in unnecessary extras and ridiculous variations before ever defining and learning the basics. Look around and you’ll see people attempt all types of extreme variations, or rattle off claims of doing 100 or more in a day. But, get them to show you a few in proper form, with good body control, and they often fail miserably. And that’s too bad. Because, push-ups are awesome! They primarily incorpora Read More...
